~ LECTORS ~ The ministry of lector calls us to be servants of the Living Word of God. In proclaiming the readings at liturgy, the reader does more than simply read. A reader’s spirituality must include an understanding of Holy Scripture as God’s Living Word made present to mankind throughout history, but most fully present in the person of Jesus Christ, the Word made flesh. Lectors need to prepare for the readings that are part of each liturgy, which involves practicing so that they are clear and audible. Lectors can be trained at any time (preferably Saturday mornings) by contacting the Ministry Contact. Training takes about 30 minutes. To be a lector, one must be a registered parishioner, have a background check, take the Archdiocese of San Antonio Safe Environment training, have completed your sacraments of initiation and be involved in parish life. The object of the Legion of Mary is the glory of the holiness of its members developed by prayer and active co-operation in Mary’s and the Church’s work. The unit of the Legion of Mary is called a Praesidium, which holds a weekly meeting where prayer is intermingled with reports and discussions. Persons who wish to join the Legion must apply for membership in a Praesidium. The Legion sees as its priority the spiritual and social welfare of each individual. The members participate in the life of the parish through visitation of families, the sick, both in their homes and in hospitals and through collaboration in every apostolic and missionary undertaking sponsored by the parish. Every legionary is required to carry out a weekly apostolic work in the spirit of faith and in union with Mary.

~ SACRISTANS ~ The New Advent Catholic Encyclopedia defines a sacristan as an officer who cares for the sacristy and sanctuary. In order to perform their duties, they should have an in-depth knowledge of the Catholic Liturgical Calendar.
The sacristan is charged with the care of the sanctuary, the church and its contents and is responsible for the preparation of the church for any service to be held there, to include Daily & Sunday Masses, weddings, funerals, quinceañeras, etc. Specifically, their duties include the preparation of the altar for Mass to include setting the pages in the Mass books, place cruets, hand towel and chalice on the Credence table and prepare all the necessary vestments for the service. They also set out cruets, the wine decanter and extra ciborium on the gift table in the rear of the church which are all to be carried in procession to the altar for the consecration. After the service, the sacristan is responsible for making certain that everything in the sanctuary and sacristy is returned to their proper place.
The mission of the St. Gregory’s Conference of the St. Vincent De Paul Society is to give assistance to the needy who reside within our parish area. We can furnish emergency supplemental food and, depending on the circumstances, may offer financial assistance for rent and utilities or help with referrals to other agencies. Because those who come to us find themselves in difficult situations, it is our mission also to be empathetic and understanding and attempt to help them to resolve some of their issues. We meet twice a month on the first and third Thursday to discuss problems that we may have encountered and to remain current with the local and national St. Vincent De Paul policies.

The devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe dates to her reported apparition in Mexico in the sixteenth century. The Guadalupanas in San Antonio have helped develop and maintain Hispanic membership in the Catholic Church. Father Elizondo claimed, “Had it not been for the Guadalupanas, Hispanics would not be Catholic today.” Many women also consider the growth in their own spirituality directly related to their participation in the Society.

Every effort should be made to find parishioners to bring up the Eucharistic gifts to the Pastor at the front of the altar. Once Mass is completed, they hand out bulletins and make certain the Church is ready for the next service by ensuring the pews are clean and orderly.
~ WOMEN OF FAITH SHARE GROUP ~ The Women’s Shared Prayer Group is a ministry of women who meet for the purpose of strengthening their faith. At present this group numbers about 15 women.
